The background

Accuro was founded in 1999 by Dr. Elisabeth Wolpert at Karolinska Institutet, the main innovator of TEIPP, and her brother Peter Wolpert, formerly with McKinsey & Company, together with several scientists in the immunology field; Professors Klas Kärre, Rolf Kiessling, Maria Masucci and Hans-Gustaf Ljunggren from Karolinska Institutet (KI), and Professor Cornelis Melief from Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), the Netherlands.

The patent-protected TEIPP concept provides a possibility to develop therapeutic vaccines for patients, whose tumor cells have escaped from the immune system. Tumor cells develop this escape mechanism through developing defects within the cells. Such cell defects are common, for example they occur in 30-40% of patients with cervical cancer.

Accuro has confirmed the initial findings made at Karolinska Institutet and shown that TEIPP in animal models can mediate protection against several different tumors such as melanoma, colon carcinoma and cervical carcinoma. Accuro is currently involved in activites aiming at clinical trials with a human TEIPP vaccine.
